Free to use, adapt and share in education

Every guide and template on this site is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 licence. Here is what that means in plain words.

Last updated [launch date]

What you can do #

Use any guide or template, copy it, adapt it to your school, trust or college, and share it, including on your own website and with other schools. You do not need to ask.

The three conditions #

Credit. Say where it came from. This line does it: "Adapted from School AI Governance, schoolaigovernance.co.uk, licensed CC BY-NC-SA 4.0."

Non-commercial. Using the material inside a school, trust or college, including in paid-for staff training you run yourselves, is fine. Selling it, or putting it inside a product or service you charge for, is not. If you are unsure which side of the line you are on, ask.

Share alike. If you publish an adapted version, publish it under the same licence, so the next school can use yours too.

Policies built with the policy builder #

A policy you build here is yours to adopt, edit and publish as your school's own document. The attribution line printed in its footer is enough credit. If you share an adapted version publicly for other schools to use, the same licence applies to it.

What the licence does not cover #

The name School AI Governance and the site's mark. The text of The School AI Governance Handbook, which is copyright and sold separately (its appendices are the free templates here). Material that belongs to others: text from government and regulators used under the Open Government Licence v3.0 ("Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0"), and short quotations from JCQ documents, which are copyright JCQCIC and quoted here under the quotation exception with acknowledgement.

Other uses #

For anything the licence does not allow, such as including a template in a paid product, write to hello@schoolaigovernance.co.uk. The full licence text is at creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0.
